ICE special agent in charge speaks out on possible human trafficking at Saudi Arabian compound

Posted: Updated:
McLEAN, Va. -

There are new details Thursday about the case of the two women who were rescued Tuesday night from the Saudi Arabian diplomatic compound on Orris Street in McLean.

John Torres, Special Agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations, says his agency got a tip that the women were being held against their will for forced labor.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials teamed up with the Fairfax County police to help the women escape. They are now being questioned by victim-witness specialists to determine exactly what was going on.

Torres acknowledges it may be challenging if diplomats are involved.

He says it is early in the investigation and he is not even at liberty to acknowledge that the house is the home to the Saudi military attaché.

Torres says there are avenues the Justice Department and Homeland Security can pursue if diplomats played a role in human trafficking, including prosecution, and sometimes expelling a guilty party from the country in cases where they may have diplomatic immunity.

But Torres says his agency's first concern is helping the victims.
