Girl Scout troop says money from cookie sales missing

Posted: Updated:

Parents of an Atlanta-area Girl Scout troop say a woman who was holding thousands of dollars of money from cookie sales has not turned it in.

The manager of the cookie sales money allegedly didn't hand over the funds to the Girls Scouts of Greater Atlanta, which amounted to almost $5,000.

Kamille Sims is a Brownie in East Point. She said that she worked hard to sell Girl Scout cookies.

"Pretty much everywhere I went, I was selling cookies. On Sundays, I sell cookies. At school, I sell cookies. In my neighborhood, I sell cookies," she said.
Sims said that selling cookies was fun, but she was disappointed to learn that the money was gone.
"Sad because all the Girl Scouts in my troop, we worked hard every day," said Sims.
Troop leader Traci Harden said that the troop planned to use their portion of the money for a trip to Six Flags and an awards banquet. Both are now in jeopardy.
"I am frustrated beyond words because we pride ourselves as a troop to be open and communicative and honest with each other," said Harden.

FOX 5 went by the home of the cookie manager, but the person who answered the door refused to talk.

Jennie Scott, whose daughter, Aline, is in the troop, said that it has been a tough lesson for the girls. She said that it's been hard for them to talk to their daughter, especially about the Girls Scout law that says, "I will try my best to be honest and fair."
"The whole reason we have her in Girl Scouts is to teach her all the values that they teach: honesty, fairness, sharing," said Jennie Scott.

Hardin said it was to report this to police because she knows the woman, but she says she had to in order to protect the troop and the girls.

Police say they are now investigating.
