A little boy, just 4 years old, left on a hot bus. It's a story we first told you about two weeks ago. Now, we're getting our first look at the surveillance video from inside that bus.
It shows the little boy all alone as he tries to figure out why no one else is on board with him.
We talked with the boy's mother and their attorney.
Surveillance video from the bus shows us exactly what happened in the minutes after the driver left the bus. It shows an adorable 4-year-old boy stuck inside looking for help.
When 4-year-old Floyd Smith woke up from a nap on his school bus, he looked around and saw no one was there. He took a closer look at the seat behind him. Still no one. Not even the driver was in sight.
So he sat and he waited without saying a word.
Floyd is a special needs child and he's not able to speak. He was on his way to preschool at Laveen Elementary, before everyone got off the bus and no one noticed Floyd sleeping on the seat.
A few minutes after Floyd woke up from his nap, in the surveillance video, you can see a worker board the bus. The worker put his things down, looked at Floyd, then continued at his job.
A few minutes later the worker went to get help and a woman finally took Floyd off the bus.
Floyd's mother has now watched the entire 11 minutes. This is what she said last week about the whole ordeal:
"What's wrong, what are their steps to make sure all the kids get off the bus? How do they account to make sure all the kids get home safely?" said Jennifer Ponce. At the time, she feared Floyd had been on the bus for as long as 1 to 2 hours.
Laveen School District officials say they are investigating what happened. But now Floyd's mother has a lawyer. She says she wants to make sure this never happens to her son again.
I spoke to the lawyer over the phone and he said they want the district to make public exactly what steps it will take to make sure workers keep kids safe. He says right now he's not talking about a lawsuit, but that could be in the future if Floyd's mother doesn't see action from the district.
