PHOENIX -

Police say a device they considered suspicious was found be safe and non-explosive.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump says they received a call about a suspicious device at a bus stop bench near 23rd Avenue and Northern on Wednesday morning.

According to Crump, officers first used a robot to investigate the device and eventually shot at it to make it open up.

After officers looked at the device, they determined it was non-explosive.

The bomb squad is on-site investigating to see if the device was intentionally left there to create an inconvenience.

A portion of I-17 was closed during the investigation.
