NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A fire ripped through two houses in northern New Jersey early Tuesday morning leaving 13 residents homeless.

The three-alarm blaze in Paterson broke out at 197 Rosa Parks Boulevard at 3 a.m., said fire officials.

The flames spread to a vacant house next door.

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Hancock tells The Record newspaper firefighters prevented the flames from damaging a third house and it took nearly three hours to bring the fire under control.
