'Spider-Man' scenes to be shot in Rochester

Posted: Updated:

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate city is getting ready for its close-up as the stand-in for the Big Apple when the filming of a Spider-Man movie begins this week.

Filming of stunt scenes for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is scheduled to begin Tuesday in downtown Rochester and continue through May 9.

Fleets of New York City police cars and taxi cabs have been brought to Rochester to give it a Manhattan look during the shoot, which is expected to pump more than $600,000 into the local economy.

The state's film office tells the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester that Columbia Pictures is sending 200 crew members to Rochester, with another 250 workers and 150 extras hired locally.

The film is set for release in May 2014.
