A mother and her teenage son were arrested when she fired a gun into the air after a family altercation where her son brought her two rifles in northwest suburban Elgin.

Police received multiple calls at 3:30 p.m. Friday after a woman fired a gun into the air in the Poplar Creek subdivision in the 1000 block of Peachtree Lane, Elgin police said. Several calls also stated that she had multiple weapons with her.

Twana Mosley, 35, heard about an earlier neighborhood fight involving her extended family members and she went outside her home with two handguns, Elgin police said. She confronted someone from the earlier fight and fired one round in the air.

Mosley's 14-year-old son brought two rifles outside to his mother, Elgin police said.

Police quickly surrounded the home and Mosley and her 14-year-old son were arrested without incident.

Police seized three handguns and two rifles during a search of the home.

Mosley was charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm and a misdemeanor count of not having a valid FOID card, Elgin police said.
