PHOENIX -

A driver died after losing control of his vehicle on a freeway transition ramp early Saturday morning.

The Department of Public Safety says a man was driving on the transition ramp from southbound I-17 to westbound I-10 when he lost control.

The vehicle ultimately slid sideways into a guard rail.

According to DPS, the driver was killed during the crash, the front seat passenger had a head injury, one back seat passenger had a severe leg injury and the second back seat passenger had minor injuries.

All passengers were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Officers are investigating the cause of the crash, but haven't ruled out impairment being a factor in the crash.

The driver's name hasn't been released.

The ramp was closed for part of the morning.
