Patients Say LA 'Doctor From Hell' Scarred Them

Posted: Updated:
Beverly Hills -

(FOX 11) Dozens of patients have complained to the California Medical Board about a Los Angeles doctor they say left them horribly scarred.

So why after so many complaints was the doctor allowed to continue hurting patients?

Critics say this is the perfect example of what needs to change with the medical board. California state Sen. Curren Price says the medical board is not doing a good job of investigating doctors and warning patients. He plans on shutting down the board if the problems aren't fixed immediately.

In this case, the patients complained to the board that doctor, Shane Sheibani, performed plastic surgery on them that left them disfigured and in pain. It took years for the board to take action against Sheibani who now calls himself a psycho-spiritual coach.

The FOX 11 investigative team went undercover to meet up with Dr. Sheibani. His reaction is classic when he discovers I was a reporter and not a potential client.

Sheibani has denied the patients' claims.

We have tried repeatedly to get an interview with someone from the medical board but they've refused, saying that we are only going to make them look bad.

The Medical Board of California is under fire from critics who say it is slow to act against bad doctors, and ineffective when it does. The State Assembly is considering a move to strip the Medical Board of its enforcement powers and turn those powers over to the California Attorney General.

The Fox 11 Investigative team -- in its "Doctors From Hell" series – has highlighted doctors who were allowed to continue to practice despite repeated complaints from patients who say their plastic surgery left them disfigured or scarred.

Hell on earth, that's how some doctors describe Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa also known as E.B. It's a horrible genetic disease that Nicky Zahorcak was born with. A lot of his skin is raw, the slightest touch can cause blisters that quickly spread. He says, "Right now, all the bandages that you see everywhere even on my sides, they're all raw skin." His mother Silvia says very few people know about this rare condition and she wants to change that.
