A Camden County mom faces charges after police say she was caught in a lie.
Cops say the Pennsauken woman took hundreds of dollars from friends and family after telling them her son was sick with cancer.
Police say they got tips that 35-year-old Susan Stillwaggon's story about her son was not adding up. They questioned her and found she had been lying.
According to police, Stillwaggon admitted to a six-month scheme to collect donations from friends. Police say more than $1,000 was raised as part of the hoax.
Police say Stillwaggon even had her own son believing he was sick.
She faces theft by deception, forgery and child endangerment charges, police said.
The suspect's mother says she had no idea what was going on and her daughter is now being treated at a local hospital.
"What I will tell you is my daughter had a form of a breakdown," said the mother, who answered the door Thursday at the family's home. "She is in a psychiatric unit, being taken care of. That's all I have to say."
When FOX 29's Bruce Gordon asked, "You didn't know anything about this?"
"No, it totally blew us away," the mother answered.
Police do not believe Stillwaggon's husband knew of the scheme.
WARMUP ON THE WAY
It was a beautiful holiday weekend with slightly cooler temepratures on Easter Sunday. A cold night ahead with a Frost Advisory in effect for much of the area 12-8am Monday. Temps range from the low/mid 30s in the suburbs to 40 in the city.
Despite a chilly start Monday it will warm well into the 60s, close to 70 in the city under sunny skies. Even warmer Tuesday out ahead of our next cold front.
That front will bring some rain late day Tuesday.
