The two men accused of murdering a 2-year-old girl waived their first court appearance on Thursday. Montez Thompkins and Jeremy Thompkins were arrested Wednesday in DeKalb County nearly six months after the little girl was shot and killed inside her southwest Atlanta home.
Brothers Montez Thompkins, 21, and Jeremy Thompkins, 23, are in police custody for a shooting that killed 2-year-old Ty-teyanna Motley and critically injured her 1-year-old brother Isaiah at their home on Polar Rock Place last November. Police say the little ones were sleeping with their grandmother when the two suspects shot through the front door in the middle of the night.
No motive for the shooting has been established.
"I don't know why they did it because they know there were a lot of kids here and my baby was just two years old. She don't know what's going on. She's just 2," said Sylvia Motley, the child's mother.
Motley said that she doesn't know the two men accused in the death.
"Every chance I get and every court date they have, I'm going to be there," said Motley.
The two suspects have been charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and reckless conduct. They are being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond.
Their next court appearance is set for May 9.
