Sequestration affecting DC tuition assistance program

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Will there be enough money for college? That is what many District parents and students were asking Wednesday after they were told to get their applications in early because money for a program that helps D.C. residents go to out of state schools without paying out of state tuition could be running short.

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education asked those participating in the program to send in their applications before the May 31st deadline because sequestration and additional enrollment could cause a funding gap.

OSSE doesn't know the direct impact to each student. The sequestration cuts will hit the DC TAG fund hard. Officials believe a 5 to 7 percent cut is coming, which is roughly $1.5 million.
