TEMPE, Ariz. -

A 19-year-old woman, a sophomore at Arizona State University, was found dead at a Tempe apartment complex near campus Tuesday.

Tempe police say 22-year-old Luis Soltero came into the department's substation about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to report the death of his girlfriend, and told officers where to find the woman.

They say Soltero claimed he was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning and was taken to a hospital -- but Tempe Fire hazmat crews did not detect any presence of carbon monoxide in the apartment.

Police say they had to use force to enter the apartment and found the body of the woman. She's from out of state, and the department is in the process of notifying her next of kin. Once that happens, her name will be released.

The victim's boyfriend is being considered a suspect in her homicide. Soltero is from Arizona but is not a student.

He was arrested and faces a premeditated murder charge.
