Morrow couple loses 300 pounds together

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A lot of us have a love-hate relationship with food. Robert Righthouse loved food, and for 40 years the assistant manager at CVS pharmacy ate whatever he wanted. His wife Pam had her own weight struggles, and together the Morrow couple has lost three hundred pounds!

They took two different paths to lose weight. Pam had surgery, and Robert joined Weight Watchers. They worked together, and that made all the difference.

"I was heavier than Robert when I started my journey. I was almost, I was almost 370, so I was a very big girl," said Pam.

In May of 2010, Pam underwent a gastric bypass. It severely restricted how much food her body can handle. But at 345 pounds, Robert was used to eating anything he wanted.

"Pizza Hut, Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin-Robbins, whatever," said Robert. "I would find myself driving down the street, seeing something and thinking, "I want that!" And I would go get it."

But one morning, Robert decided no more.

"So, I got online and looked at different weight loss plans, and Weight Watchers seemed to be the one that fit," Robert said. So I started going to the meetings, and learning, relearning how to eat, because all my life I had eaten what I wanted."

At a Morrow Subway, Robert uses Weight Watchers' Points System to track his eating. The first week in the program, he lost eight pounds. So, Pam started eating like Robert and they pushed each other to lose weight.

"And our story is good, because you do have moments that discourage you and upset you," Pam said.

But they got through the roadblocks together, and now they're both 150 pounds lighter.

"When you live with someone every day, I just want everyone to know this, the partnership is very important. It inspires you, it drives you," Pam said

"You can do this. And it's not a matter of if you lose weight, it's when you lose weight. And you'll feel better. If I can do it, anyone can," said Robert.

Robert hit his Weight Watchers lifetime goal in January. Pam is still trying to lose another 40 or 50 pounds.
