PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police are searching for the vehicle officers say struck a 2-year-old Thursday afternoon in South Philadelphia.

The hit-and-run happened in the area of the 1300 block of Tasker Street just after 4 p.m.

Police say the 2-year-old boy was taken to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Police say witnesses report the mom of the child was paying a bill at a PGW store when the child ran out of the store and into the street. The mother ran after the child as he was struck by an SUV, police said.

Police say the SUV left the scene.

Investigators are now reviewing surveillance video obtained from a corner grocery store at Broad and Tasker.
