You probably won't be surprised to hear that the rent in the D.C. area goes up faster than the rest of the country.
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that median rents, including utilities, went up $26 between 2009 and 2011.
That's a bigger jump than any of the other 50 major areas in the country.
The only place with higher rent costs is San Jose, California - but the cost went down there in that time period.
It went down in San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles, too.
