SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for all of southeast Michigan until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Weather Authority Rich Luterman says warm winds from the south combined with a cold front moving in from the north put our area at an elevated risk of severe weather.

Luterman says winds from the south will push temperatures into the uppers 70s this afternoon, fueling the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms. Some of these storms could produce damaging winds and heavy rains.

The National Weather Service issued several sever thunderstorm warnings during the two o'clock hour. It also issued a flood watch for southeast Michigan through Friday morning with 1-3 inches of rain expected.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
