Police have confirmed that the body found in the Tidal Basin has been identified as 35-year-old Sarath Potharaju.

Potharaju, who is from Chicago, was in D.C. for a business trip and had been missing since Easter Sunday.

His body was found near the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial at around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Potharaju was in the area near the Tidal Basin on March 31 spending time with his family. He ended splitting up with his family and wasn't seen or heard from since then.

"They don't have any root cause or anything, so we don't know," says Srinivas Kolluri, referring to what D.C. police investigators have told him about his nephew's death. "They're still investigating."

Police do not suspect foul play. Kolluri says investigators told relatives there is no trauma to the body.

"Something hit him or somebody pushed him," Kolluri told us. "We don't know."

Another uncle, Anand Kolluri, also flew to Washington from Danbury, Conn., to help identify the body and meet with detectives.

"Everybody says that we are praying for him and we thank everybody," he told reporters at the Tidal Basin Friday afternoon. "The family is so depressed and we are making the arrangements to send the body to India (for cremation)."

"He is our only nephew," added Srinivas Kolluri, who lives in Austin, Texas. "We have only one sister and only one nephew. Her only son. We don't know what happened. What led to this. This is very traumatic for us."
