DETROIT (WJBK) -

The family of a fallen Detroit police officer is reaching out to help the family of another hero in blue wounded in the line of duty.

Plans are underway to hold a fundraiser for the family of Officer Patrick Hill.  He was shot in the head last week and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Officer Hill has a wife and four children.

Jim Bowens, who lost his son, Officer Matthew Bowens, in 2004, hopes the community can help them with donations.

"We need all the donations we can get to make this a huge success so his family won't have to worry about the medical bills and living expenses," said Bowens.  "Everybody get on board and help us, and everybody pray for the young man.  He needs our prayers more than anything."

The fundraiser for Officer Hill is April 27 at the Lincoln Park VFW on Fort Street.  It starts at 6:00 p.m.  Tickets are available at the door for $20.
