Showers, thunderstorms for Chicago area Wednesday

Northeastern Illinois is in for a rainy Wednesday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected in the area Wednesday morning, with the worst of the storms expected before noon, according to the National Weather Service.

After that, the rain should to taper by the afternoon before picking back up again overnight, the weather service said.

While Chicago is at slight risk for severe weather, the most intense storms are expected to hit south of I-80 and northwest around Rockford, the weather service said.

Rainfall between half and three-quarters of an inch is possible Wednesday, with another three-quarters to 1 inch possible overnight. A flood watch is currently in place for the Rockford area. A flood watch was not issued for Cook County.
