DC honors residents 100 years old and older

WASHINGTON -

Cameras clicked as photographers snapped pictures of people rolling along in wheelchairs and ambling behind metal walkers. They were headed to a luncheon.

It is the D.C. Office on Aging 27th Annual Centenarian Salute. It's a gathering for folks ages 100 and older.

There are 195 registered centenarians in D.C. Only 21 of them are men.

102-year-old Rayfield Griffin told FOX 5 the secret to a long life is "no nightclubbing and all that business."

When asked for a little advice for others, 100-year-old Mary Meyer says: "I think sometimes it would be good for them to sit quiet and think and speak to their grandmother and the grandfather."
