Ga. man convicted in failed murder-for-hire plot

DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A metro Atlanta man has been convicted for hiring a hit man who killed the wrong target.

Antiwan Lane Monday was found guilty of murder, felony murder and criminal solicitation in December 2011 death of Ivan Perez. Authorities have said 36-year-old Lane believed his wife was having an affair with a man named Hector Gonzalez and hired Kevin Stallworth to kill the man.

Officials say 31-year-old Stallworth instead shot his target's cousin and left evidence on the scene that led investigators back to Lane. Investigators used Stallworth's phone to track incriminating calls and text massages back to Lane.

Stallworth has pleaded guilty to murder, felony murder and aggravated assault.

Both men are being held in the DeKalb County jail and have yet to be sentenced.
