Two men were arrested Friday after deputies found out they had been smuggled into the United States.

When Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies pulled over a van with Mississippi license plates, they say about 14 people ran out of the vehicle and into the desert.

Deputies, the sheriff's helicopter and canine units searched the area for the border violators.

30-year-old Reynel Hernandez Rodriguez and 44-year-old Santiago Trigueros-Beza were the only people able to be found.

Deputies say the men are Guatemalan nationals and paid up to $5000 to be taken to New York and Florida.

Both men were booked into jail felony human smuggling charges.
