Yuma border agents arrest convicted pedophile

Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - A man convicted of sex crimes against a child in New Mexico is in trouble with federal authorities in Arizona.

Border Patrol agents in Yuma say they captured Jose Reyes-Acosta and another man after they crossed the Colorado River near Somerton on Thursday.

A records check revealed Reyes-Acosta was an aggravated felon with an extensive criminal history that included a conviction of sexual misconduct with a minor in 2005 and child abuse and intimidation of a witness in 2003.

Authorities say Reyes-Acosta had spent 18 months in prison in New Mexico and was deported to Mexico.

Authorities say he's now facing prosecution by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Arizona.
