SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

A 25-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a home through a doggy door early Thursday morning.

Police say John Akins crawled through a doggy door to get into a home near Chaparral and Granite Reef Roads.

The homeowner, a 49-year-old woman, allegedly saw Akins walk into her room and when she confronted him, he closed the door. She immediately texted her 47-year-old boyfriend, who was on the other side of the hallway.

Officers say the man saw Akins standing in the kitchen and when he confronted him, Akins ran out the door to the backyard.

The boyfriend began chasing Akins, but lost him after Akins eventually jumped over another home's fence.

After a brief foot pursuit, officers say they found Akins hiding in a bush in front of a home down the street.

In addition, police say they found a bag with a laptop computer outside the woman's home. They say it was stolen from a vehicle a short time before the orginial burglary. Officers also found a stolen briefcase and documents at a park nearby.

The car burglary victim identified all the items as being stolen from his vehicle.

Akins was arrested after a brief struggle and booked on charges of burglary and resisting arrest.
