NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. -

Firefighters battled a brush fire in the area of I-95 at I-295 in New Castle County, Delaware Wednesday.

The fire sparked around 4:20 p.m. Emergency responders said smoke from the fire did not impact traffic in the area.

The fire comes on a day where several area counties are under a Red Flag warning for high winds and dry conditions.

The warning, issued by The National Weather Service, included areas in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The NWS says the warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday night. Winds in the areas under the warning were expected to reach 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

The winds, combined with low humidity and dry fuels, raise the chance for a wildfire, the NWS said.
