Rock Creek Park deer population reduced by 10 percent after hunt

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

The deer hunt in Rock Creek Park is over for now.

The National Park Service says sharpshooters killed 20 deer - or about 10 percent of the total park population.

The National Park Service ordered the hunt to protect plant and animal habitats in the three-square mile park.

Venison from the deer killed will be donated to a local food bank or homeless shelters.
