Woman, dog were stabbed to death

Posted: Updated:

The Maryland Medical Examiner's office has found that a 37-year old Anne Arundel County woman found dead in her home, March 22nd, died from "multiple stab wounds." Her dog, a Pitbull mix, also died of multiple stab wounds, according to police. No arrests have been made in the case.

Davidsonville, Maryland is a bedroom community where most of the homes are sited on several acres. There is a sizable house at 3317 Royale Glen Court with a row of enormous panels that generate electricity from the sun. At that house, on March 22nd, two acquaintances of the owner called Anne Arundel County police to report the discovery of a body in the home.

The owner was 37-year old Nicole Burgess, known generally as Nicki. According to a neighbor, Nicki Burgess had grown up in that house. In recent years, she had become the primary occupant, working as an interior architect.

Some neighbors believe a boyfriend sometimes lived with Nicki Burgess. And, early Saturday afternoon, a package delivery service attempted to drop off bundles (addressed to a man) at the house. Relatives of the murdered woman, who live nearby, declined to receive the packages.

Anne Arundel County police say, at this point, they don't know whether the murder of Nicki Burgess was a random event, or whether she was targeted. A funeral service for the victim was held on Friday.

Anne Arundel County police are hoping that anyone with information about the death of Nicki Burgess will give them a call. The primary investigator is Detective Vince Carbonaro of the Homicide Unit at 410-222-3453.

Tipsters may also choose to remain anonymous.
