A 4-year-old boy was flown to Phoenix Children's Hospital after being found in a backyard pool, near 32nd Street and Mountain View.
An adult relative pulled the boy from the pool's deep end about 2:30 p.m. and attempted CPR.
"She pulled him out, was able to do CPR, knew CPR, child regained semi-consciousness and at that point firefighters arrived," said Phoenix Fire Capt. Larry Nunez.
The boy may have been underwater for up to 4 minutes. There was no fence around the pool, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. The house was grandfathered in, so it wasn't required to have a pool fence.
At last check, the 4-year-old was in critical but stable condition.
"There was an adult at the home that was watching him, we just don't know the circumstances surrounding what happened."
Nunez says everyone should know CPR.
