Nearly 7,000 speeding tickets have been issued to drivers on the Intercounty Connector since it opened in November, 2011.
That's according to documents obtained by WTOP (http://bit.ly/10fyr48), which reports that nearly 200 of the tickets were to drivers traveling less than 65 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The speed limit rises Saturday on the roadway from 55 mph to 60 mph. The change followed a Maryland Transportation Authority study that found the highway can support the higher speed limit without any safety risk.
The documents show a half-dozen drivers were ticketed for going more than 55 mph, but less than 60 mph. And 16 were caught driving over 100 mph.
