ALEXANDRIA, Va. -

Fairfax County Police are investigating a groping incident that occurred Thursday afternoon and it is believed to possibly be the 24th incident in a series of assaults of women in the Springfield area.

Police say a 31-year-old woman was shopping inside the HomeGoods store in Kingstowne Towne Center in the Springfield section of Alexandria at around 3 p.m. She was grabbed from behind by a man following her in the store and the suspect immediately fled from the store and into the parking lot.

Police say several people attempted to chase and stop the suspect, but he was able to escape the area.

There are multiple security cameras inside the store and detectives are checking to see if there are any usable images of the suspect.

According to police, this incident differed from prior groping cases. This one took place inside a commercial business with other people nearby.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, around 30 years of age. He wore a black jacket, light-colored pants and a black hat.
