CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Police have issued a community alert for the South Chicago neighborhood after a 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted last Friday.

The woman was abducted from a Hammond, Ind., gas station at about 6:20 a.m. on March 22, according to the alert. A suspect allegedly hid in the woman's minivan while she was shopping inside the Shell gas station and revealed himself once she drove away, forcing her to drive to various locations.

Police said the man implied that he had a weapon and forced the woman to drive into an alley on the 9500 block of Colfax Avenue, where he dragged her into the back of the van and sexually assaulted her. Police said he then forced her to drive to an ATM near 103rd Street and Torrence Avenue, where she was forced to withdraw money. The man got out of the victim's vehicle neat 89th and Lowe streets, police said.

"In the morning we have one person on duty and that's it," the gas station manager says. "At this point, the gas station does not know if the abduction was caught on surveillance cameras. But police did tell us that once the victim drove off, the man attacked her inside her van."

"I just got a call from the officer saying that the incident happened and they would like to see my cameras," gas station owner Sam Niz says. "There's a good chance the suspect was caught on camera if the cameras were rolling."

The suspect is described as a black man between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, 160 to 180 pounds, between the ages of 30 and 33. He has a medium build, brown eyes, a dark complexion and cornrow-style braids and was last seen wearing a long sleeve red Chicago Bulls shirt, black and gray jeans and a dark blue or black varsity-style jacket with horizontal stripes on the sleeves and white lettering.
