Georgia Meth Project takes anti-meth message to classroom

Posted: Updated:
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -

The Georgia Meth Project has been working for the last three years to bring their shocking anti-drug message to the masses. Now, they've found a way to fight meth use from inside Georgia's classrooms.

"We don't have to dress anything up about this program. Meth is really hard stuff and it really hits these kids hard. And we need to tell them and show them that this is the reality of methamphetamines," said the Executive Director of the Georgia Meth Project, Jim Langford.

The new curriculum is a structured lesson plan that teachers can use to deter students from even trying the drug one time. Videos and testimonies from actual addicts are teaching tools, and it appears to be having an effect on the 8th graders at Barrett's Mill Middle School in Fayetteville.

"I thought it was horrifying to see all those things that happen because of meth," said student Holly Nelson.

Student Ziarre Walker says she didn't know about the dangers of meth, and what the drug's ingredients could do to the body.

The curriculum is available free to all Georgia educators, and the Georgia Meth Project is hoping for a huge payoff.

"It kind of made me not want to do meth. It's pretty disgusting, and I just didn't find it too cool," said Walker.

We already know about some of the fees our banks charge -- the monthly fee, the overdraft charge, out-of-network and minimum balance fees. That's standard stuff. But did you know that the average checking account has 30 fees attached?
