Two teens accused of shooting a baby in a stroller faced a judge on Monday.
Dominique Lane, 15, and De'Marquise Elkins, 17, are being tried as adults for the murder of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in Brunswick.
Police say Elkins and Lane tried to rob Sherry West as she was walking her son in his stroller last Thursday. When she said she had no money, they allegedly opened fire, hitting the baby in the face and West in her leg.
Hazel Etheridge, the grandmother of Elkins, said she was shocked when she heard about the crime.
"I could not believe that somebody kill a baby, I just could not believe it," Etheridge said.
Etheridge said that she can't believe her grandson was involved.
"I don't think my grandson would have done nothing like that," she said.
Pastor Kenneth Atkins says he feels in a way responsible because Elkins was once was a member of his church.
"I'm searching myself to make sure, maybe I was too busy, did I not return a call – is there something I could have done better? Because there are a whole lot more young men like him, we got to make sure we slow down enough to catch them," said Atkins.
West says she plans to pack up and leave Georgia.
The teens charged in the murder will have bond hearings next week.
