Hinchcliffe wins Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -

James Hinchcliffe overtook Helio Castroneves with 26 laps remaining and held on to win his first career victory at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday.

Hinchcliffe was a fitting winner, considering he took over driving the green No. 27 GoDaddy car for the late Dan Wheldon, who tragically lost his life in 2011 and had called St. Petersburg his adopted hometown.

"It's Dan's hometown, it's Dan's car so I'm excited to put it in victory circle for him," Hinchcliffe said after the race. Wheldon's widow, Susie, brought the field to the start by waving the green flag, and watched as Hinchcliffe earned a spot on the trophy alongside Dan's face.

"I've always wanted to do [Dan] proud and you know with his family here in his hometown, I couldn't think of a better place to get a win in this car, with GoDaddy and Andretti Autosport."
