HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham has confirmed there was an explosion inside an apartment at the Beechwood Complex, near Metro Parkway and I-94.

The explosion occurred approximately 3:30 p.m.

Sheriff Wickersham says a 19 year-old male was transported to a local hospital with severe burns.

Harrison Township Fire officials tell us two others received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The investigation to determine the cause of the blast was still underway at 10 p.m., but Fox 2 has confirmed that evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the wreckage.

Members of the Drug Enforcement Agency were on site, and immediately tested some of the chemicals taken as evidence for methamphetamine. The results were negative.

The entire 16-unit building was entirely evacuated for safety reasons. Our crew on the scene found lots of debris and broken glass.

We're also told The Red Cross is lending assistance to residents who are unable to stay with family or friends Sunday night.
