Fire ravages Brooklyn Center apartment complex; Alarms reportedly fail

Posted: Updated:
BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (KMSP) -

Firefighters responded to a raging fire at an apartment complex fire early Sunday morning in Brooklyn Center.

All residents were able to escape safely, but many told FOX 9 News their smoke detectors failed to sound.

Investigators do not yet know what caused the fire that destroyed three units and left a dozen with smoke and water damage at the Melrose Gates Apartments on Camden Avenue.

The Brooklyn Center fire chief backed residents' claim of faulty alarms, and management plans to provide residents with hotel rooms.

The American Red Cross is also providing emergency disaster relief to six adults displaced by the fire.
