West Oak Lane Apartments Still Without Heat

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

"I tried to stay in here," said Dominique Ragsdale. She and her children have left their apartment to stay with a relative. That's because Bentley Manor Apartments in West Oak Lane where they live hasn't had heat since March 5th.

"Why has it been 20 days and we still don't have not heat?" said Dominique. Friday she came back to get clothes and baby formula for 1 1/2 year old Kaden and one month old Alana.

"My son has a sinus infection and he's had a runny nose for two months because the heat is always on and off. My daughter is also sick."

Fox 29 has been out here three times in the past week. Management told us Monday that they would chose a company Tuesday to fix the heat. That didn't happen. So Friday we went to the office to confront them.

"We actually have someone working on it now. They're in the boiler room," said an office worker. We were told a contractor was on site fixing the problem and that we could go see for ourselves. But when we got there we found apartment maintenance staff instead and they didn't want to talk. One guy even closed the door on us and locked the other guy inside the boiler room so we could not speak to him.

Fox 29 called back to the office but they were back to giving more excuses and said they could not give a date when the heat would be back on.

Around 5:30 that afternoon, the office manager returned our call and said the heat was fixed but it would take a few hours to heat up the building. We checked at 10 o'clock tonight and residents said the heat still was not on.@
