Atlanta 911 operators say they cannot hear callers who contact them in an emergency and they complain their supervisors have been slow to fix things.
Robert Voight, a retired sheriff's supervisor who now works for a private security company, said that he had problems on a recent call to 911.
Voight said that he couldn't communicate properly with the operator due to issues the audio headset.
The president of PACE Union, the city workers union, Gina Pagnotta-Murphy said that wasn't an isolated incident. She said she had 33 signatures of city workers saying that their headphones' audio were distorted at times.
"This has been going on since before March 5 because the list of names of union members that I received was dated March 5 and now it's March 22," said Pagnotta-Murphy.
Deputy Chief Erica Shields of the Atlanta Police Department said that she was "disappointed" to find out that supervisors had known about the problem for more than two weeks.
"This should have immediately been brought to my attention and the attention of Chief Turner," Shields said. "Both our in-house technicians and private sector technicians to trouble shoot and identify if there is an isolated to certain people's equipment. I got the first report back that everything was operating correctly and obviously the dispatchers or the operators feel otherwise and we have to get to the bottom of it and we will.
Shields said that they are investigating to see if the problems are isolated to a few workers' equipment, or if it was a systemic problem. She said that she will make sure the problem gets fixed.
