Rethinking The Bell Verdict, A Juror Speaks Out

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) The Bell corruption trial ends with high drama and the judge declaring "all hell has broken loose" with a deeply divided jury.

A day after five former city officials were found guilty on multiple counts -- the jury deadlocked on remaining charges and the judge declared a mistrial. The tensions in the jury room were evident in a series of handwritten notes to the judge. In one -- a juror writes about the pressure and stress that may have produced an improper verdict of guilty. In another, one juror accuses others of making false accusations and insults.

Jurors asked to be escorted from the courthouse without speaking to reporters.

Defense attorney Shepard Kopp says that's exactly the type of potential misconduct that could lead to a new trial. And he says he and the other attorneys will investigate what exactly happened with the jury before deciding if they will appeal Wednesday's guilty verdicts.
