CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A road rage incident on a Northwest Side street Friday morning led to a shooting and the two cars involved in the incident later crashing into each other.
About 5:40 a.m. the two vehicles were involved in a road rage incident in the 4400 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.
Someone in one of the cars opened fire on the other vehicle, striking a 37-year-old man once in the upper back, Estrada said.
Both cars then fled the scene of that incident and later collided with each other at the intersection of Foster and Nagle avenues, about three miles northwest of the original incident.
An unknown number of people got out of the car the shooter was in and fled on foot, Estrada said.
The man who had been shot was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs. Another person was taken in serious condition to Resurrection Medical Center, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Police cordoned off traffic at the intersection of Nagle and Foster and as of about 8:30 a.m. police were still on the scene, Estrada said. Area North detectives are investigating.
