MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A Madison Heights Police officer was greeted by a shotgun Thursday afternoon, while responding to a report of a man with a gun in the area of Madison Preparatory School.

Officers arrived approximately 12:40 p.m. and located a 24 year-old man from the Bloomfield area. He was holding a shotgun.

After pointing the gun at police, the man then pointed it at himself. No shots were fired, according to the police report.

"The suspect never entered or attempted to enter the school, however a lockdown was put in place and (then) lifted after the incident," the release said.

The man was arrested and taken to the Madison Heights Police Department.

Police are still trying to determine why the man brought a gun to the location.
