LOS ANGELES (KTTV/CNS) - A grand jury indictment is scheduled to be unsealed today for about 25 reputed members of the MS-13 gang who are accused of extorting food-truck operators.

The defendants allegedly targeted catering trucks at construction job sites.

The indictments were scheduled to be unsealed this morning in the courtroom of Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo, but sheriff's deputies told the judge they would not be in court until this afternoon.

The arrests took place early Friday morning.

The gang, Mara Salvatrucha, formed in Los Angeles by immigrants from El Salvador and Central America in the 1980s, was recently labeled a transnational criminal organization by federal law enforcement authorities, a designation that enables federal agents to freeze assets.
