FOX 29 Investigates Team Receives Award

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

We've got some good news to share about our FOX 29 Investigates team.

Reporter Jeff Cole, senior producer Gary Scurka and photographer Mark Lavalla have won a "Larry Weiss Award for Investigative Reporting."

This is the second year in a row the team has won a "special recognition award," which carries a $2,500 prize.

Last year, FOX 29 Investigates revealed that dirty, even flammable used mattresses were being sold to consumers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The awards will be presented at an April 18 ceremony. Here's a link to a news release about the awards.

Other winners are the Daily News and the City Paper.

The Weiss Award was set-up last year by local businessman Larry Weiss and Temple University's Center for Public Interest Journalism as a way to encourage news organizations to support investigative reporting.
