3 children hit by 15-year-old student driver in Ashburn

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a 15-year-old student driver receiving a driving lesson struck three children in Ashburn Thursday evening.

Police say three sisters between the ages 7 to 11 were playing in front of their home when the 15-year-old girl was getting a driving lesson from her parent. Investigators say the teen driver was practicing making a right-hand turn and unintentionally accelerated and struck the girls on the sidewalk. The Toyota Camry continued down the street and wound up in the woods.

The teen does have a learner's permit.

A 7-year-old girl was airlifted to Children's Hospital and is in critical condition. Her 8-year-old and 10-year-old sisters were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition.

It is unclear how the teen driver lost control of the vehicle.

The driver and the parent were not injured.
