CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Police on Wednesday issued a community alert warning people of an increase in violent robberies of iPhones, which have taken place in the early morning hours this month.
Two such incidents were spotlighted in the alert, both of which occurred on March 10. In the first incident, about 1 a.m. in the 400 block of North Dearborn Street, two men approached the victim on sidewalk, placed the victim in a headlock and forcibly removed an iPhone and wallet from the victim's pockets.
In the second incident, about 5 a.m. in the 600 block of North Dearborn, the two men approached the victim on the sidewalk, grabbed him by the arm and began walking with him. That man threatened the victim with violence and the victim gave him his iPhone 5.
Descriptions of the offenders vary, but they are generally described as black men both between 25 and 30 years old. One is 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, with a dark complexion and braided or dreadlock hair. The other is about 5-foot-8, 170 pounds, with a medium complexion and short hair.
If anyone has any information on these robberies, they are asked to call Area Central detectives, at (312) 747-8384.
