A 23-year-old man turned himself in to police Tuesday night in connection to the hit-and-run of a 10-year-old girl in Philadelphia's Fishtown neighborhood.
FOX 29 cameras were there as the man, Charles Mulhern, walked into the 15th district police headquarters with his attorney.
Mulhern is accused of hitting 10-year-old Sarah Givens as she crossed Memphis Street in her Fishtown neighborhood last Thursday.
An attorney for Givens' family tells FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson the family is pleased the suspect turned himself in.
A neighbor's security camera captured video of what police say is the white Denali SUV Mulhern drives.
Mulhern's attorney, Joe Kelly, says the family called him Saturday after seeing the video of the SUV on the news. Kelly says his client admits he was involved but claims he didn't know he had hit someone.
Mulhern gave a statement to police at his home Tuesday, according to his attorney. The family has since turned over the SUV and is fully cooperating with police, Kelly said.
The father of the girl says both of his daughters were the victims of separate hit-and-runs that occurred in different parts of the city in just a matter of days.
Police say they are still searching for the driver of an unrelated hit-and run who struck Givens' sister last Saturday in another section of the city.
