Surveillance image showing the suspect outside the Can You Picture This? T-Shirt shop.
DETROIT (WJBK) -
A surveillance video shows a guy that appeared to be a handyman handling his business on a sunny Sunday making sure a security door was secure and locked up tight. However, the cops say he is the criminal.
"The locks were broken, and it looked like someone had broken in," said shop owner Clayton Carter. "Someone could've just came in and had a free for all."
A man was caught on camera allegedly stealing parts from a heavy duty roll down door at Can You Picture This T-Shirt shop in Detroit.
So they setup their own sting operation and lured the suspect to a different spot, a bogus job to bust him. He took the bait. Carter called Detroit police in because his crew wanted the cops to watch what was about to go down.
"The police took a report and said that's all they can do for right now," Carter said. "He said, well, I'm completely sorry guy. My boss told me to do it."
The suspect's boss at Pro Line Doors said that is a lie and admitted to us that his employee did steal from the store, but broke the law all by himself.
"Truth is that somebody did steal, the employee did steal, and we're making it right," said the owner of PRO Line Doors. "He's no longer with the company after this."
Detroit police came back to the shop, took a good look at the video, cuffed the suspect and then put him in the back of a cruiser.
"Finally, I feel like justice has been served," said Carter. "They came and arrested the guy and took him to jail for stealing my stuff."
