A man is facing charges for allegedly killing a smoke shop owner and robbing the store of cash and cigarettes.

Friday afternoon, that owner was found dead from stab wounds inside the smoke shop.

Chad Michael Stevens, III, was booked into jail on charges of first degree murder, robbery, and burglary in connection to the crime.

Friday afternoon, people working at businesses in the area of University and Extension Roads called police to report a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they saw a man covered in 'a red substance' coming from the smoke shop, carrying a box full of cigarette cartons, according to court documents. When he saw officers, he dropped the box and fled.

As police chased after him, Stevens, 23, allegedly said, "I didn't do it." But a witness confirmed seeing him crouching over the victim inside the smoke shop, documents allege.

At the time of his arrest, Stevens was allegedly in possession of a large folding knife, a large amount of U.S. currency, and the box of cigarette cartons.

The victim was identified as 59-year-old Abdou G. Abdou.
