According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal online, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) has released some new guideline on when and how to introduce the primary group of foods that cause allergies.
Milk, soy, fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nut and eggs can now be introduced, according to the AAAAI, as early as 4-6 months of age.
Just twelve years ago, the Academy of Pediatrics instructed new parents to hold off introducing milk until the age of one. You were told to hold off on the introduction of fish until 3. Nuts? You could not give them to a baby under 2. While these guidelines have softened up a bit, the new suggestions have many parents rethinking thier little one's diets.
Some other suggestions are for pregnant women to not limit their diets and new mothers to try and breastfeed for four months.
Dr. Mike Cirigliano spoke about these changes this morning on Good Day.
